Tennessee Interstate Accidents

Interstate accidents are among the most common traffic wrecks and they’re often among the most deadly. With the influx of both commercial and tourist traffic around Knoxville and nearby attractions such as Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and the Smokey Mountains, the number of vehicles sharing our highways is constantly increasing.  The attorneys at Terry, Terry & Stapleton in Morristown, Tennessee have helped many victims injured on our interstates, and we work diligently to protect the rights and futures of our hurt clients. We have represented injury victims from East Tennessee and the Southeast, including Hamblen, Hawkins, Greene, Sevier, Knox, Washington, Sullivan and Cocke counties.

I-40 has been the site of dangerous accidents for years; in fact, many of the collisions involving tractor trailers within the Knoxville region occur either on I-40 or I-75.  Brain injury, spinal cord injury, and chemical burns are among the serious injuries caused by these accidents.  Truck drivers must exercise extreme caution when traveling in an area known for collisions or runaway trucks – and when drivers lack the training or experience to navigate safely, the other vehicles sharing the road also share in the risk posed by these massive 18 wheelers.

I-40 is particularly challenging for motorists at the current time because a section of the highway that runs through downtown Knoxville closed in May for an estimated 18 months as part of a massive reconstruction effort known as the SmartFIX project.  Through traffic is being diverted to Interstate 640 or surface streets. As a result, drivers in Knoxville, Sevierville, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge must take additional precautions to ensure their safety.

The stretch of I-40 that continues from Tennessee through North Carolina is even more treacherous. The curving lanes are often obscured by fog and occasionally blocked by a jackknifed tractor trailer or rock slide.

North of Knoxville, I-75 climbs to its steepest stretch onto the Cumberland Plateau, sloping down just as sharply at Jellico Mountain.  This steeply pitched stretch of road poses hazards to all drivers, and an unfamiliar or inexperienced motorist can easily cause an accident, impacting the passengers of multiple vehicles.

I-24 near Monteagle is one of the more hazardous stretches of interstate for tractor trailers.  While the road doesn’t slope as steeply as 1-40 or 1-75, one section stretches out for a longer distance and is prone to accidents.

If you have been seriously injured or lost a loved one due to an interstate accident in Tennessee, you need the help of a skilled attorney familiar with our state interstate system to determine who was to blame.  Whether a careless truck driver caused your accident or negligent workers at a construction site were responsible, your injuries may result in significant medical costs. You have the right to file a claim to recover damages for those and other expenses.
